Chris has been teaching guitar and bass lessons since 1997. He has been teaching at City Music’s Lesson Studios in Leominster since  2006 and now also teaches at their Gardner Lesson Studios. He favors an open approach customized to his students’ musical interests and abilities. Chris teaches beginning and advanced students, both young and old. Specialties include Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, Music Theory and reading musical notation.

Chris “Captain” Coombs began formal guitar studies in 1981 and has since performed in over a dozen bands. He has played major venue shows opening for The Allman Brothers, Phil Lesh of The Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, Levon Helms of The Band, The North Mississippi All Stars, Duke Levine and The Fools and has performed at many and local national music festivals including – SXSW in Austin, The Philadelphia Music Conference.  Chris’ professional gigs have taken him throughout New England, Pennsylvania, NYC and Nashville.

Chris founded, organizes and coordinates Terrapinfest – the longest running annual original music and vending festival in Central Massachusetts now entering its 16th year.

He is a sought after studio musician and has been featured on several local professional recordings as both a guitarist and producer.

Chris offers guitar lessons and bass lessons at City Music in Gardner and Leominster.
